World Cup 2023: Many great batsmen will play, but according to former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, it’s Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, who has the potential to make a big impact at the ICC ODI World Cup.
During an interview on Star Sports, when Gambhir was asked which player he was most excited to watch at the World Cup, he quickly responded, “Babar Azam.
Gambhir also mentioned that Babar is in a league of his own, even when compared to top players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root.
“Babar Azam has all the skills to make a big impact in this World Cup. I’ve observed very few players who seem to have an abundance of time while playing. Yes, there are great players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root, but Babar Azam possesses a unique level of talent,” he explained.

Gambhir also thinks that to win the cricket World Cup, India has to beat Australia because Australia has a great track record in ICC tournaments.

“I’ve consistently said this, and it’s crystal clear – if you want to win the World Cup, you’ve got to defeat Australia. When we won the World Cup in 2007, we beat Australia in the semifinals. In 2011, when we triumphed again, we defeated Australia in the quarterfinals. Australia is the toughest team in any ICC competition. Don’t pay too much attention to the rankings; rankings don’t make a difference,” he emphasized.
