Shubman Gill Battles Dengue: Concerns Mount as Shubman Gill Battles Illness Ahead of World Cup Clash
The Indian cricket team faces a potential setback before the World Cup. Reports suggest that star opener Shubman Gill has fallen ill with dengue, putting his availability for the tournament in doubt. India’s first match against Australia is scheduled for October 8, adding to the anxiety.
Shubman Gill’s recent form has been outstanding, making his health a significant concern for India. He shone in a three-match ODI series against Australia, even scoring a century. However, Gill’s participation in the upcoming match on Sunday remains uncertain. If he can’t play, India might turn to Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul as potential replacements in the opening position.
Gill, who has been one of India’s top-performing batsmen in recent One Day Internationals, is battling a high fever. His dengue test is scheduled for Friday, and a decision about his participation will follow. An anonymous source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed NDTV, ‘Shubman has been running a high fever since arriving in Chennai.’ The final verdict on Gill’s availability against Australia will be made just before the match.
In his last seven innings, Gill has recorded two centuries, showcasing his excellent form. His recent scores include 104, 74, 27*, 121, 19, 58, and 67 runs. Dengue typically requires seven to ten days for recovery. Indian team sources suggest that a hasty decision won’t be taken regarding Gill’s participation. The medical team will play a pivotal role in the final decision. If they deem him fit, Gill may play, but for now, his presence remains uncertain.
