In the first match of the three-match ODI series against Australia, India won by 5 wickets. Australia played at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali on 22 September (Friday). India had a target of 277 runs to win, which it achieved in the 49th over.

David Warner played an inning of 52 runs and Josh Inglis played an inning of 45 runs. Whereas Steve Smith contributed 41 runs and Labuschagne contributed 39 runs. Mohammed Shami took five wickets for India. Whereas Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja got one wicket each.

Shubman Gill scored the highest 74 runs for India in the run chase. Whereas Rituraj Gaikwad scored 71 runs, KL Rahul scored 58 not out and Suryakumar Yadav scored 50 runs. Rahul gave India victory by hitting a six off Sean Abbott.
