Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Subramaniam Badrinath shares his insights on India’s impressive performance in the ongoing Cricket World Cup, particularly highlighting the team’s impressive performance and the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma is looking in great form in the ongoing ICC World Cup with his aggressive and attacking intent. He has scored 311 runs in 5 innings, breaking many records.
He hit five sixes during his innings of 131 against Afghanistan in Delhi on 11 October, surpassing West Indies’ Chris Gayle’s previous record of 553 sixes for most international sixes. He also became the joint fastest player with David Warner to score 1000 runs in the ODI World Cup.

Speaking to Star Sports about Sharma’s captaincy and impact as an opening batsman, Badrinath said, “First of all, his captaincy has been very good. He stuck to the process and backed the right players. Especially “He is showing a lot of trust in Shardul Thakur and maybe the time has come for that move to bear fruit. I think the captain-player relationship between them is really strong.”
Overall, I think Rohit is a big brother type of captain. He is easy-going and has good relations with the boys. So, I think he is performing quite well and his batting form is tremendous. He has talked about this before and said that he will play positively from the beginning and that is what he is doing.”

Badrinath also discussed the resurgence of spinner Kuldeep Yadav and the balance in India’s bowling lineup.
Badrinath said, “Two things. If you consider it from a technical point of view, he has worked on his run-up, made it more direct, which gives more pace to his bowling. Also, he has Has improved his non-bowling arm, which has now become more straight. These two technical adjustments have increased his aerial speed.”
Badrinath also talked about Hardik Pandya’s absence due to injury and how he believes the team should adapt to the match against England in his absence. Additionally, Badrinath highlighted an untested middle-order and cautious optimism about India’s World Cup campaign.

“Hardik is a big miss, he is the key player who provides balance for Rohit and Team India. But I personally would like to bowl a bowler, be it Shami or Ashwin, it doesn’t matter, because I want a bowler who can bowl 10 overs because I don’t see Shardul bowling 10 overs in the match Because he will. be difficult.
India’s middle order has not been tested but it is not a matter of concern, because India has been dominating and the top order is scoring runs so it cannot be called a matter of concern, but it is a fact. But these things happen in sports, you cannot put a price on playing very good cricket. I hope the demons of 2019 don’t come and haunt India, that’s my only concern.”
