The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 38,000 spectators and is home to the Karnataka State Cricket Team and the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was first established in 1969 and was initially named the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stadium. It underwent a major renovation in 1996, which included the construction of new stands and the installation of floodlights, making it one of the first cricket stadiums in India to have floodlights.
Over the years, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has hosted several international cricket matches, including both Test and One Day International (ODI) matches. History of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stadium, has a rich history in the world of cricket. The stadium was inaugurated in 1969 and was named after M. Chinnaswamy, who served as the president of the BCCI from 1977 to 1980. The stadium was built on a piece of land donated by the Government of Karnataka to the KSCA.

In the early years, the stadium had a seating capacity of only 15,000 spectators. However, with the growing popularity of cricket in India and the increasing demand for tickets, the stadium underwent a major renovation in 1996. The renovation included the construction of new stands, the installation of floodlights, and the improvement of the playing surface.

- Anil Kumble’s ten-wicket haul against Pakistan in 1999: Kumble became only the second bowler in the history of Test cricket to take all ten wickets in an inning. His spell of 10/74 helped India win the match by 212 runs.
- Sachin Tendulkar’s unbeaten 214 against Australia in 2010: Tendulkar scored his 49th Test century and his highest individual score in Test cricket. His innings helped India win the match by seven wickets.
- Chris Gayle’s 175* for RCB against Pune Warriors India in 2013: Gayle’s innings is the highest individual score in T20 cricket. He hit 13 fours and 17 sixes in his innings, which helped RCB post a total of 263/5, the highest team total in T20 cricket.
