According to reports, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will discuss white ball captaincy with Rohit Sharma.

According to the report of ‘Times of India’, Rohit Sharma has already told the selectors that he should be kept away from the T20 format. The source said, “Before the World Cup, Rohit Sharma had talked that he has no problem with him not being considered for the T20I. The selectors have been investing a lot in youth for T20 International for the last one year. “We want to stick to this strategy for the T20 World Cup to be held in June next year.”

Since he was not considered in T20, now the selectors can talk to Rohit about captaincy in the ODI format. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma can only focus on Test format. He can captain the Test till the next cycle of the World Test Championship i.e. 2025.

The source further said ‘Times of India’ “Now it seems that Rohit Sharma will focus more on tests for the next World Test Championship which will run till 2025. Preparing a new captain for the longer format will be an important part of this agenda. “In view of Hardik Pandya’s injury, the selectors may look for a new option in ODIs.”
