As the cricketing world gears up for IPL 2023, defending champions Gujarat Titans are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in the season opener on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The IPL 2023 auction saw franchises make significant additions to their squads amid much fanfare and excitement.
Punjab Kings became the most expensive player in IPL history by buying Sam Curran for ₹18.5 crores, while Mumbai Indians brought Cameron Green for ₹17.5 crore and Ben Stokes from Chennai Super Kings for ₹16.25 crore.
However, there were some setbacks in the auction as well, with several players pulling out of the tournament due to injuries. Looking at the 2023 ODI World Cup, some big names like Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant have been ruled out of the IPL season due to their injuries. While Bumrah is still recovering from his persistent back problem, Pant is recovering from his freak car accident which happened on December 31, 2022.
Kyle Jamieson, who recently underwent surgery for his back injury, has also pulled out of the tournament. Jhye Richardson, Will Jacks, and P. Krishna are among the other players who have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries.

On the other hand, the participation of some players in IPL 2023 is yet to be confirmed. Anrich Nortje is recovering from injury and his presence in the tournament is still uncertain. Shreyas Iyer missed the fourth and final Test due to a recurring back injury, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to give a medical update on his condition.
Jonny Bairstow has been out since September last year after getting injured while playing golf and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to give him medical clearance for the IPL. Meanwhile, the news is coming that Sarfaraz Khan may also be ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
