Speculations are rife with the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 whether former Indian skipper MS Dhoni will retire from the T20 league after this season. Dhoni’s first match leading Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 will be against defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31.
But the possibility of MS Dhoni playing in IPL 2024 has been hinted at by former CSK batsman Suresh Raina, which will be welcome news for his fans across the world. Raina, who is currently playing for India Maharajas in Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023 after retiring from IPL last season, said that Dhoni’s form and fitness in IPL 2023 will determine his availability for the 2024 season.

Commenting after the match against the world giants on Wednesday (March 15) night, Raina said that Dhoni can play in the IPL next year as he is in good form and seems to be batting well. However, he added that it all depends on how he performs this season, which will be quite challenging as he has not played in any tournament for over a year.
Dhoni, unlike Raina, is not yet eligible to play in Legends League Cricket. Although he has retired from international cricket, he has not quit all forms of Indian cricket, and as per BCCI rules, a player must be completely retired from Indian cricket to be eligible to play in overseas or other leagues. Needed Indian cricket includes international cricket, IPL, and domestic cricket.
