The biggest cricket stadium in the world, Narendra Modi Stadium, will also be where India faces Pakistan on October 14. The final match of the tournament will happen there on November 19. Before that, the semifinals will take place on November 15 and 16 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
All 48 matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will happen in 10 different places. This is the fourth time India is hosting the World Cup and the first time since India won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. India will play their matches in Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. Interestingly, the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, which can hold 55,000 people and has hosted many international matches, is the only historic venue where India won’t play a league match. There will be a reserve day for both semifinal matches.
8 out of the 10 teams in the World Cup already qualified, and the remaining two got in through the World Cup Qualifiers. Each team will play the other nine teams in a round-robin format. The top four teams will make it to the semifinals. Before the main tournament, there will be warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3 in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad.
India’s first match will be against Australia on October 8 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Apart from Pakistan and Australia, India will also face tough competition from New Zealand in Dharamsala and England in Lucknow. These are the two teams that beat India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Schedule was announced two weeks later than initially planned. Pakistan asked to change the dates of two of their matches, one against Australia in Bengaluru on October 20 and another against Afghanistan in Chennai three days later. The BCCI refused their request, and that’s why the World Cup 2023 schedule was delayed.
Interestingly, the World Cup schedule for 2019 in England was announced more than a year before the tournament started on May 30, 2019. This time, the schedule was kept a secret for a long time, which is why there hasn’t been much excitement about the tournament. The ICC and the BCCI didn’t reveal the schedule until later.
