Rinku Singh couldn’t make it happen tonight, even though he hit a number of sixes. However, by the time he came up to bat in the final over, the target was well out of reach. It’s amazing that KKR even came close to winning after their rough start to the chase when they fell to 20/3 due to the new ball attack from Bhuvneshwar and Jansen. But thanks to a brilliant counter-attack from Rana, which began by taking Umran Malik to the cleaners, and a late surge from Rinku, the crowd’s hopes were raised.
Nitish Rana, KKR captain: Thank you for the compliments on our run chase. However, I feel that our bowling was not up to the mark and did not go according to our plans. Even considering the wicket conditions, this was not a 230-run wicket. While we had great innings from Rinku the other day, such performances cannot be expected every day. Our batting was impressive, and we aimed to take the game deep and give ourselves a chance.
While we had a home advantage, we knew that the Eden Gardens track would always be a high-scoring one, and we have been preparing for a par score of 200. However, we need to improve our bowling performance. Even our main bowlers were going for runs today, but I can’t be too critical because they are the same bowlers who can win us games in the future. Overall, I am pleased with the fight we showed, but we would have been happier if we had secured the two points.
Five Sixes Sporting History
For now, this season belongs to the 25-year-old Rinku Singh, who hails from Aligarh. In a match against Gujarat Titans, the Kolkata Knight Riders batsman accomplished what seemed impossible: he hit five consecutive sixes in the last five balls to make history in the world of sports. This achievement is a remarkable chapter in his rags-to-riches story.
Rinku’s IPL contract in 2017 was a dream come true, but it did not immediately bring good times. His family was in debt and living in poor conditions until just three years ago.
Rinku’s father delivers cooking gas cylinders, and the motorcycle Rinku won in a tournament was handed to him to make the transporting of cylinders easier. His elder brother has worked as both a sweeper and an autorickshaw driver. Rinku himself has helped his father by sitting on the back of his motorcycle to assist him in his job, as was expected of him and his brothers.
When Rinku was just starting out in cricket, he was offered jobs as a sweeper and a mop boy at a coaching center. Despite his father’s objections to his pursuit of cricket, Rinku ran away to follow his passion. The sport is fortunate that he did not give up.
