Ind vs Aus 2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma comes to the rescue of Suryakumar Yadav after the match, who is struggling to live up to his T20 potential in ODI cricket. The middle-order batsman, who has only made a top score of 34 in his last 10 ODI innings, moved in at No.4 in place of the injured Shreyas Iyer. Sharma said that with the space available, he had to play Suryakumar, and would be given frequent runs to get comfortable with the format. If even after this there is no improvement in his performance then the management will start thinking about it.
Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc on India’s top order in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (March 19), leaving former India skipper Virat Kohli horrified. Starc claimed the first wicket for India, leading to a dramatic collapse for Rohit Sharma’s side, resulting in a 10-wicket defeat and 1–1 draw in the three-match ODI series against the visitors. One of Starc’s four wickets was that of world No. 1 T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who was caught leg before wicket (LBW) by the Australian left-arm pacer, adding to his poor performance in the ODI format.

In addition to Rohit Sharma’s comments, the Indian skipper also praised Mitchell Starc’s bowling performance, saying that it was a top-class display of pace bowling. He admitted that the Indian batsmen struggled to play Mitchell Starc and were put under pressure early on, which led to their downfall.
The defeat also highlighted India’s middle-order issues, which have been a matter of concern for some time now. Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion was an attempt to address the issue, but his struggles in the ODI format have only added to the problem. The team will need to find a solution to this issue going forward, especially with the T20 World Cup around the end of the year.

Despite the loss, there were some positives for India, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to form with the ball and Hardik Pandya’s impressive batting performance in the previous match. The team will need to regroup quickly and come up with a plan to bounce back in the final ODI and win the series.
