Asian Games Women's Cricket: Indian Team Makes History, Beats Sri Lanka to Win Gold in China

The Indian women’s cricket team won a special gold medal at the 19th Asian Games. They played against Sri Lanka on Monday, September 25, at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Ground in Hangzhou. India won the game by 19 runs. Sri Lanka was trying to chase a target of 117 runs but could only make 97 runs for eight wickets.

This was the first time the Indian women’s cricket team participated in the Asian Games, and they made history by winning the gold medal on their first try.

In the game, Sri Lanka didn’t start well and lost three wickets while scoring only 14 runs. Titas Sadhu, a fast bowler, took those three wickets. Then, Hasini Perera played aggressively and took Sri Lanka’s score to 50 runs. However, Rajeshwari Gaikwad ended Perera’s impressive innings. Perera scored 25 runs from 22 balls with four fours and one six.

After Perera got out, Neelakshi de Silva and Oshadi Ranasinghe tried to build a partnership and added 28 runs. But Pooja Vastrakar bowled out De Silva. After Perera, Deepti Sharma also dismissed Oshadi, making India’s job easier. Titas Sadhu took three wickets for six runs for India. Rajeshwari Gaikwad got two wickets, while Deepti Sharma, Devika Vaidya, and Pooja Vastrakar took one wicket each. Despite losing, Sri Lanka won the silver medal, and Bangladesh won the bronze medal by defeating Pakistan.

  • Second wicket- Vishmi Gunaratne (13/2)
  • Third wicket- Chamari Atapattu (14/3)
  • Fourth wicket- Hasini Perera 25 runs (50/4)
  • Fifth wicket- Nilakshi de Silva 23 runs (78/5)
  • Sixth wicket- Oshadi Ranasinghe 19 runs (86/6)
  • Seventh wicket- Kavisha Dilhari 5 runs (92/7)
  • Eighth Wicket- Sugandhika Kumari 5 runs (96/8)
