In the World Cup 2023 opener, KL Rahul was the top scorer with an unbeaten 97 runs. Following the match, Rahul mentioned that he had endured a lot of criticism, with people commenting on his performance in every game. He couldn’t comprehend why this was happening because he believed his performance was not that bad. It’s worth noting that KL Rahul had suffered a thigh injury during IPL 2023, which kept him away from cricket for months. He made his comeback with Team India during the Asia Cup last month, where he batted impressively.

Rahul shared with Star Sports, ‘There was a lot of criticism, people were commenting on my performance in every match and situation. I couldn’t understand why this was happening because my performance wasn’t that bad; it was just annoying and hurtful.’ After missing the first two Asia Cup matches due to a minor injury, Rahul made a strong return, scoring 169 runs in 3 innings at an average of 84 and a strike rate of 89, including a century.
KL Rahul emphasized the challenges of returning from injury, saying, ‘I know how painful the process of recovering from injury is. I got injured during the IPL, stayed away from cricket for four-five months, and playing in the World Cup wasn’t guaranteed.’ Nonetheless, KL Rahul maintained his form and played a significant inning of 97 runs against Australia in the World Cup’s first match. When asked about his motivation for preparing for the World Cup, he revealed that the dream of representing India in a World Cup held at home inspired him during tough times.

Rahul stated, ‘I adopted a positive approach, and my sole motivation was to make a comeback before the World Cup and be a part of the World Cup played at home. We’ve been preparing for it for a long time, and every morning, the thought of winning this World Cup drives me to get out of bed, hit the gym, and do the hard work. Playing the World Cup at home is special for every cricketer, so yes, I’m very excited about it.’
