New Zealand has had an impressive victory in the sixth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, defeating the Netherlands by 99 runs in the Hyderabad match. This marks New Zealand’s second consecutive win in the World Cup, and the star player in both these matches has been Rachin Ravindra.
In New Zealand’s first match on October 5 against England, they won by 9 wickets, with spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra named Player of the Match. He took one wicket and played a match-winning inning of 123 runs, remaining unbeaten.

In the match against the Netherlands, Rachin Ravindra once again showcased his talent, taking one wicket and contributing a brilliant 51 runs with the bat. These performances have earned him two significant historical records. In the first match, when he scored a century, he became the youngest New Zealand cricketer to achieve this in World Cup history. Furthermore, by scoring fifty in the second match, Rachin Ravindra has now set another record as the first Kiwi player to score 50 or more consecutively in the first two World Cup matches of his career.

Special Connection Between Sachin and Rahul in Rachin’s Name
Rachin Ravindra, who hails from Wellington, is set to turn 24 next month, on November 18th. His connection to India is quite intriguing. Rachin’s name has ties to two great Indian players. The Kiwi batsman’s father, R. Krishnamurthy, had moved to New Zealand for work in the 90s, and that’s where Rachin Ravindra was born.

Rachin’s father had a deep love for cricket and even established his own cricket club in Wellington. Krishnamurthy was a devoted fan of Indian cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. That’s why he chose to name his son ‘Rachin’ by combining parts of these Indian greats’ names – taking ‘R’ from Rahul and ‘Chin’ from Sachin.
Rachin’s Promising Cricket Career
Rachin is seen as a rising star in the world of cricket. He represented New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cup in 2016 and 2018, displaying impressive performances. He made his international cricket debut in September 2021 in a T20 match against Bangladesh and has since also debuted in Test and ODI formats.
